Six students from the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Brawijaya (FP UB) who are members of the EcoLiving Community held an EcoAction II activity which aims to provide education and training related to waste management through the participation of housewives and young people. This activity took place at Balai RW 01, Rampal Celaket Village, Klojen District, Malang City, East Java which also invited 20 housewives and five young people.
As an extension of the zero waste concept, EcoAction II activities also provide education related to inorganic waste management through the waste bank system and other waste management techniques.
“The concept of zero waste has begun to be echoed by several environmental activists since it is not only able to reduce waste, but also provides benefits to the economic and social aspects.” Said Zulfikar Dabby as chairman of the EcoLiving Community.
The EcoAction II activity was attended by Kak Dede as Financial Officer of Urban Nexus and Kak Putri as a representative from Teens Go Green Indonesia.
“We should take action for the climate, starting from small things such as processing organic waste into compost or by reducing the use of single-use plastic,” said Putri as the mentor of Young Leaders for Climate 2 from Teens Go Green Indonesia
The implementation of EcoAction II also invited Drs. Totok Sapto Mardjono as Head of Garbage Reduction and Cleaning Section, Malang City Environmental Service who became a speaker regarding household organic waste management.
“The target of Malang City government is that the landfill will no longer operate in 2030, so that household waste management should not only rely on the landfill anymore but has started with the awareness of each person,” said Totok
Not only that, EcoAction II also involved Malang Garbage Bank to strengthen understanding regarding the waste management system. This activity also invited Ms. Efrida Hartini, A.Md and Mr. Yusuf Employees who were speakers on the topic.
“The most important thing is when we want to do business, then whatever waste or garbage we can create into products that can be sold,” said Ms. Efrida
The benefits of EcoAction II activities were also felt by Fony, one of the participants in this activity. Fony feels that actually the household waste that is generated can also be used to make products that are of use and sale value
“What we know is that it’s only processing waste into crafts, but it turns out there are lots of products that we can process from waste. Even rainwater can also be processed into drinking water,” said Ms. Fony
It is hoped that the EcoAction II activity can bring fresh air in the application of the zero waste concept in RW 01, Rampal Celaket Village through the management of inorganic waste through a waste bank and organic waste through earthworm cultivation.
This series of EcoLiving Community activities under the leadership of Young Leaders for Climate 2 is organized by Teens Go Green Indonesia in collaboration with Plan Indonesia through the Urban Nexus Program and supported by ANCP-DFAT and Plan Australia.
The Young Leaders for Climate 2 activity is an activity that accommodates young people in dealing with the climate crisis through actions that harmonize the environment of children and young people, humanitarian issues, and social inclusion.
Members of the Young Leaders for Climate 2 consist of 6 people, namely Zulfikar Dabby Anwar, Agribusiness 2019; Christoforus Kalo Bello Puyanggana, Agroecotechnology 2019; Ni Wayan Atik Sarmila Dewi, Agribusiness 2019; Wahyu Rizki Pratama, Agribusiness 2020; Risa Salsabila, Agroecotechnology 2021, and Hafiz Okta Ramadhan, Agroecotechnology 2022.
